KYOTO - A 46-year-old woman employed at a chemical-related company has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly giving a muffin containing the designated deleterious substance acrylamide to a 30-year-old male acquaintance in Kyoto, police said on August 22.
The suspect, Kana Fujiki, 46, a temporary worker from Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture, is accused of attempting to kill the man by having him eat the contaminated muffin in Kyoto on July 24.
The man was taken to a hospital after eating the muffin, but his condition was not life-threatening.
According to police, the victim received the muffin containing acrylamide through a mutual acquaintance. Investigators believe there had been some form of trouble between Fujiki and the man.
