TOKYO - A Toei bus crashed into a traffic signal in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward on the morning of August 26 after the driver lost control of the steering wheel while trying to shoo away a mosquito, leaving two male passengers injured.

The accident occurred at an intersection in Nishikasai, Edogawa Ward.

The impact left the bus windshield covered with numerous cracks, while the pole supporting the traffic signal was bent sharply by the collision.

Two male passengers were thrown forward and struck their faces against the seats in front of them. They were taken to a hospital after suffering injuries including nosebleeds.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the driver said he had been "trying to shoo away a mosquito" immediately before the accident.

Police said the driver mistakenly operated the steering wheel while attempting to drive away the insect, causing the bus to leave its intended course and strike the traffic signal beside the road.

The driver was not injured.

The traffic signal was knocked out of operation by the collision, and police officers continued directing traffic at the intersection while the equipment remained unusable.
