SHIGA - A foreign man in his 30s suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car while riding a bicycle in Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture, early on August 29, with police investigating the incident as a hit-and-run.
At around 3:30 a.m., a resident contacted police after hearing a loud noise on a municipal road in Shirinashicho, Higashiomi. The resident told police that he went outside after hearing the noise and found a man lying beside the road.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found the foreign man lying on the road and had him taken to a hospital. He suffered serious injuries, including a fractured shoulder.
According to police, security camera footage from the area showed the man riding his bicycle east when he was struck from behind by a car.
The vehicle continued driving and left the scene without stopping.
Police are searching for the vehicle and driver as part of their investigation into the suspected hit-and-run.
