SHIGA - A 17-year-old high school girl was arrested in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture, on September 2 after allegedly stabbing her 49-year-old father in the neck with scissors during an altercation at their home, with the father later dying at a hospital.

According to police, the girl is suspected of stabbing her father, a local government employee, at their home at around 7:30 a.m. on September 2.

The girl later contacted police herself and said that "there had been a fight." Officers arrested her at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.

Her father was taken to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

During questioning, the girl partially denied the allegation, telling investigators, "When we were struggling with each other, the scissors I had picked up stabbed him. I did not stab him intentionally."

Police plan to change the charge from attempted murder to murder and are investigating the motive and the circumstances leading up to the incident.
