KYOTO - Roads around the Fushimi Otesuji Shopping Street in Kyoto's Fushimi Ward were flooded on the evening of September 13 after water began gushing from a nearby road, forcing authorities to close part of the street to traffic.
Police received multiple calls shortly before 4 p.m. reporting that a road near the shopping street in Higashiotecho had collapsed and water was overflowing.
According to police and other authorities, the water spread along a road leading to the shopping street and eventually flooded part of the arcade area.
No injuries have been reported, but a section of the road running through the shopping street has been closed to traffic.
A person working at the shopping street said, "At the moment, it does not look like water has entered the stores, but I think it is causing inconvenience for customers."
The cause of the water overflow has not yet been determined.
The incident caused temporary confusion in the area, which is expected to draw large crowds on Sunday, September 14.
