TOKYO - A popular Tokyo nightclub hostess and influencer known as Yamatorino, who says she generated more than 200 million yen in sales during a single month, has been arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine with her boyfriend at their home in Roppongi.
Rino Tazawa, who works under the name Yamatorino at a nightclub in Tokyo's Roppongi district, was arrested at the scene on September 16 on suspicion of violating the Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Act.
Police had received information earlier this year that Tazawa was using cocaine and launched an investigation.
Tazawa and her boyfriend, company executive Kota Fukumoto, are suspected of possessing about 0.4 grams of cocaine at their apartment in Tokyo.
Tazawa has admitted to the allegation, telling investigators, "The cocaine at our home belonged to both of us. We used it together."
Fukumoto has denied the allegation.
Police also found what appeared to be straws used for inhaling drugs and 21 additional bags containing a powder believed to be cocaine at the apartment. Investigators are examining how the drugs were obtained.
Tazawa is known as an influencer in addition to working at a nightclub and has appeared on YouTube audition programs and other online content.
She has also posted about her lavish lifestyle and her success in the nightclub industry.
Tazawa said April, when she held a birthday event, was the busiest and most difficult month of her life. She said she had initially regarded sales of around 150 million yen as a target but ultimately exceeded her goal by a wide margin.
Her sales for the month surpassed 200 million yen.
