Body Found on Island May Be Missing 6-Year-Old Boy

YAMAGATA - Police in Yamagata Prefecture are working to identify a body found on the coast of a remote island on September 23, the 19th day since a 6-year-old boy went missing in Sakata, after discovering that the body was dressed in clothing similar to the Spider-Man outfit the child was wearing when he disappeared.

The missing boy, Yuto Takahashi, is a first-grade student at a special needs school. Police had released footage showing him shortly before his disappearance and continued searching for him, but had been unable to find any significant clues.

Police announced that an unidentified body of undetermined sex was discovered at around 11:20 a.m. on September 23 on the coast of Tobishima, a remote island about 40 kilometers from Sakata Port.

Takahashi was reportedly wearing a Spider-Man-patterned jumpsuit on the day he disappeared. The body found on the island was also dressed in similar navy blue and red clothing, raising the possibility that it may be the missing boy.

Police are working urgently to establish the identity of the body.
