Truck Crashes Into Car Showroom

SHIGA - A medium-sized truck carrying an excavator overturned and crashed into a used car dealership showroom in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, on November 2, apparently after the construction equipment struck a pedestrian overpass and caused the vehicle to lose its balance, police said, adding that no injuries were reported.

The accident occurred at around 2:20 p.m. at a used car dealership in the Yokogi district of Otsu. An employee called the police emergency number, reporting that a medium-sized truck had crashed into the vehicle showroom.

According to police, the truck was traveling along a municipal road with an excavator loaded onto its bed when the machinery became caught on a pedestrian overpass. The impact apparently caused the truck to lose its balance, overturn and crash into the dealership.

A witness described seeing the truck become unstable moments before the collision. "It looked as though the front wheels were lifting off the ground before the truck lost its balance and crashed into the building," the witness said.

The dealership is located near the Kyoto-Higashi Interchange on the Meishin Expressway, a major highway connecting the Kyoto and Shiga areas.

The accident prompted traffic restrictions along part of the surrounding road as authorities responded to the scene. Despite the truck overturning and striking the showroom, no injuries were reported.
