Skater Hanyu misses achieving most difficult jump in Beijing 2022

Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu scored a total of 283.21 points in the men's Olympic free program on Thursday, after he missed landing the sport's most difficult jump for the first time in official competition.

In the first round of men's figure skating on Tuesday, Hanyu scored 95.15 points and was ranked eighth. In the free program on Thursday, he scored 188.06 points.

Japanese skater Yuma Kagiyama scored 310.05 points and compatriot Shoma Uno scored 293, confirming medals for both. Junhwan Cha of South Korea scored 282.38.

Achieving the quadruple axel would have been key for Hanyu to recover and get high enough scores to make it to the podium.
