Nishinomiya, Jan 22 (News On Japan) - A 19-year-old Brazilian national has been arrested for shoplifting at a convenience store in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, and allegedly punching the clerk in the face while fleeing.
According to police, at around 4:00 AM on January 20, the man shoplifted items worth about 850 yen, including a gas canister, from a convenience store in Koshien Gobancho, Nishinomiya City, and attempted to escape. Subsequently, he assaulted a 54-year-old male store employee who had pursued him, inflicting minor injuries.
Police were able to identify and apprehend the man, a resident of Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, based on security camera footage and other evidence.
The suspect, charged with robbery and assault, reportedly admitted to the allegations during police questioning, stating, "There is no mistake."
