Hokkaido Man Confesses to Killing Sister

SAPPORO, Jan 23 (News On Japan) - A Hokkaido man who told police he had killed two people, has been arrested for the attempted murder of his brother-in-law, and faces murder charges for the slaying of his sister.

Hajime Takahashi (54), from Nishi Ward, Sapporo, was arrested at around 4:30 PM on Sunday in Iwamizawa, Hokkaido, where his sister's younger brother was found stabbed with a knife at his home and transported to the hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. A knife, believed to have been used in the stabbing, was found at the residence.

Based on Takahashi's confession to having killed his sister, police were led to an apartment in Yoichi where a woman in her 60s was found collapsed in an apartment. She was later confirmed dead. Takahashi stated that he had traveled from Yoichi to Iwamizawa, about 100 kilometers away, in a rental car.

Police on Monday afternoon confirmed the identity of the deceased woman as his sister, Kayoko.

Takahashi told police he had intending to kill both individuals.
