Behind the Scenes with Manga Editors in New Documentary Series 'Ura Manga'

Ura Manga - The Hidden Side of Manga

TOKYO, Jan 28 (News On Japan) - Shogakukan's manga app "Manga ONE" editorial team has released a documentary titled "Ura Manga – The Hidden Side of Manga" on the official "Manga ONE" YouTube channel.

The documentary "Ura Manga – The Hidden Side of Manga" offers an in-depth look into the Manga ONE editorial department, known for producing hit series such as "Mob Psycho 100," "Kengan Ashura," "Blue Orchestra," "Japan Sankoku," and "Hotaru's Marriage." A director, armed with only a camera, closely follows the manga editors to meticulously depict the behind-the-scenes work of the editorial team. The first episode of the documentary was released on January 26, with subsequent episodes scheduled to be released at a rate of about six per month.

In this project, cameras were allowed to follow the editorial team for an extended period, capturing the job of manga editors from various angles, a profession not widely known to the public. The documentary includes scenes such as editorial meetings for the fighting manga "Kengan Omega," where editors can be seen engaging in actual combat, giving a real-life glimpse into the interactions between manga artists and editors.

Sync Creative Management, a company known for producing various in-depth documentaries such as "PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS," "THE ROLAND SHOW," "Attack on Noah," and "Tani Momoko Ballet Company," is responsible for the production of "Ura Manga – The Hidden Side of Manga." The direction and supervision are handled by Eijin Watanabe, who directed "Hyper HardBoiled Gourmet Report," and Tokio Shiratake, who is active on the YouTube channel "Shimofuri Tube" by comedy duo Shirofuri and on the television program "Downtown Gaki no Tsukai."
