TOKYO, Apr 05 (News On Japan) - Japanese manga "Captain Tsubasa" has closed its chapter on a 43-year history, selling over 90 million copies worldwide.
"Captain Tsubasa" began its serialization in Shonen Jump in 1981, spanning 43 years until 2024. The story, which follows the growth of its protagonist "Tsubasa" from elementary school through junior youth leagues, and eventually onto the world stage, is hailed as a monument in soccer manga.
The series has achieved over 90 million copies in circulation worldwide and has been adapted into television anime and games, among other formats, enjoying widespread popularity.
The creator, Yoichi Takahashi, although retiring from manga artistry, has announced plans to continue the series with pencil-drawn episodes on the "Captain Tsubasa" website.
