Influencer Accused of Defacing Yasukuni Shrine Faces New Charges in China

BEIJING, Aug 29 (News On Japan) - A Chinese influencer accused of defacing a stone pillar at Yasukuni Shrine with graffiti is now under investigation by Chinese police for separate charges.

Dong Guangming, the suspect, allegedly visited Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward in May this year and spray-painted the word "Toilet" in red on a stone pillar. He was subsequently placed on a wanted list by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

After the incident, Dong quickly returned to China, and by July, Japanese police had arrested one of his associates.

On August 27, the Public Security Bureau in Hangzhou, China, announced that Dong is being interrogated on unrelated charges.

Dong is suspected of conspiring with others in May to threaten individuals involved in online live-stream shopping, coercing them to deposit money into a bank account.

Dong, who operates under the alias "Ironhead" on Chinese social media platforms, has been actively involved in online activities.
