Theme parks in Japan to remain closed

Mar 21 (NHK) - The company that operates Hello Kitty theme parks in Japan has decided to extend their closures due to the spread of the coronavirus.

Sanrio says Sanrio Puroland in suburban Tokyo will stay closed until early April. Its initial shutdown was due to end on Friday.

Sanrio says the extension is needed to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. It says it will monitor the situation and decide when to reopen the park.

The company's Harmonyland theme park in Oita, western Japan, will remain closed until March 27.

The company that operates Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea has already decided to keep them closed until early April.

Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, western Japan, will remain closed until March 29.
