Foreign visitors to Japan double over one month

TOKYO, Nov 17 (NHK) - The number of foreign visitors to Japan in October more than doubled from the previous month. Government officials credit the surge to a weaker yen and a further easing of anti-coronavirus border controls.

The Japan National Tourism Organization estimates that 498,600 people arrived from overseas last month.

Visa-waivers were reinstated for tourists and other short-term visitors from certain countries from October 11th. Individual travel is also allowed, whereas previously tourists needed to be registered with groups.

People from South Korea were most numerous at 122,900. Second was the United States with 53,200, followed by 36,200 from Hong Kong and 35,000 from Taiwan. ...continue reading
