Wakayama, Jan 28 (News On Japan) - The creation of 'Kitcho,' a vibrant good luck charm traditionally displayed on Setsubun, is underway at Kumano Hayatama Taisha in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture.
'Kitcho,' symbolizing omens of good fortune, is a revered object in the locality, believed to bring happiness when adorned during Setsubun, which is held on February 3 this year.
At Kumano Hayatama Taisha, willow branches, considered to welcome the gods of fortune, are trimmed. The shrine maidens then decorate them with colorful mochi resembling flowers, as well as ornaments like sea bream and koban (old Japanese gold coins).
Approximately 1,100 Kitcho, both large and small, are prepared for Setsubun.
