TOKYO, Apr 15 (News On Japan) - A group of teenagers were taken into custody by police in a late-night sweep in Tokyo's Kabukicho district, including a runaway girl who had traveled from Hyogo Prefecture.
The operation took place in the so-called Toe Yoko area near Kabukicho, a known gathering spot for young people seeking a place to belong. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department approached several minors during the sweep.
One girl, wearing a jumper, sweatpants, and sandals, was seen being spoken to by officers.
"It's better than staying here. It's just the police box, come with us," one officer said, encouraging the girl to accompany them.
She initially appeared to respond positively, taking a step forward, but then resisted going to the police box. She was eventually taken in a police vehicle for questioning at a station.
In total, 25 minors were taken into custody during the patrol. Among them were three 14-year-old girls, including one who had run away from Hyogo Prefecture.
The Metropolitan Police warned that the Toe Yoko area poses various dangers and urged young people to stay away.
