Ranking of Pet Names: 'Mugi' Tops List for Both Dogs and Cats

TOKYO, Jul 12 (News On Japan) - A survey on pet names has revealed that 'Mugi' is the most popular name for both dogs and cats. According to the 2023 Pet Name Ranking conducted by pet insurance company Aipet Insurance, the top names for male and female dogs have been 'Leo' and 'Coco' respectively for nine consecutive years.

For male cats, 'Leo' has also been the top name for nine years in a row, while 'Luna' has ranked first for female cats for two consecutive years.

Additionally, 'Mugi' has reclaimed the top spot for the overall combined ranking of both male and female dogs and cats for the first time in two years.

The survey also highlighted unique names such as 'Poporon', 'Fukuru', and 'Giorno', noting an increase in distinctive and charming names.
