NARA, Aug 06 (News On Japan) - August 6th marks 80 years since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. At Yakushiji Temple in Nara, a bell rang out with prayers for peace.
At 8:15 a.m., the exact time the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the bell at Yakushiji was sounded to express hopes for nuclear disarmament and lasting peace.
The "Peace Bell" ceremony is part of an annual initiative by Nara City, which has declared itself a non-nuclear peace city. Temples, churches, and other religious institutions across the city are invited to participate. This year, local elementary and junior high school students gathered to quietly pray for the victims.
One participant said, "I rang the bell with a wish for peace." Another added, "What happened in the war must be passed down through generations."
