OSAKA, Jul 24 (News On Japan) - As the summer season heats up, the chants of the traditional 'Gyaru Mikoshi' parade ahead of the Tenjin Festival, one of Japan's three major festivals, echoed through the shopping streets of Osaka on Tuesday.
The Gyaru Mikoshi is a staple of Osaka’s Tenjin Festival, one of Japan’s three major festivals.
This year, 80 women aged 15 to 30, selected for their physical stamina, carried two mikoshi, each weighing about 200 kilograms, through the Tenjinbashi-suji shopping street.
The Tenjin Festival will celebrate its 'Yoimiya' on the 24th and its 'Honmiya' on the 25th, with fireworks lighting up Osaka’s summer night sky.
