Nagano, Jul 31 (News On Japan) - A bear and its cubs were filmed relaxing in a river in Kamikochi, Nagano Prefecture, a popular hiking destination, showing no fear of humans. The photographer, originally there to capture bird photos, encountered the bears unexpectedly.
Locals are usually advised to quietly leave if they spot a bear, but the photographer and about 20 to 30 other tourists chose to stay put and film the scene from a distance of about 50 meters. The Ministry of the Environment advises against filming or making loud noises in such situations.
Pank Machida, Director of the Asian Animal Medical Research Center, recommends avoiding sudden movements and backing away slowly while maintaining eye contact if encountering a bear.
