Suspected Saitama Serial Arsonist Arrested

Saitama, Aug 07 (News On Japan) - A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with a series of nine suspicious fires in Saitama.

The fires occurred within a 3-kilometer radius in Kuki City and Okegawa City, causing significant concern among local residents.

Despite denial of the charges by the suspect, Fumio Okuma, police found matches in his possession, which he claimed to always carry despite not smoking.

The fires, which began earlier this month, have led to the destruction of multiple properties, including warehouses and a house. All nine fires are now confirmed as suspicious.

Okuma's brother, when interviewed, described him as an ordinary person and mentioned that he was unaware of any worries his brother might have had.

The police are continuing their investigation to determine Okuma's potential involvement and motive behind the arsons.
