Tsunami Warnings Lifted Following Earthquake in Southern Japan

Miyazaki, Aug 09 (News On Japan) - An earthquake struck southern Miyazaki on Thursday at around 4:43 PM, with the epicenter in Hyuga-nada, at a depth of 30 kilometers. The magnitude of the earthquake is estimated to be 7.1.

Tsunami advisories were issued for parts of Miyazaki and Kochi Prefectures, as well as the Tanegashima and Yakushima regions, and parts of Ehime and Oita Prefectures. All advisories were lifted at 10 p.m.

However, caution regarding sea level fluctuations is still advised.

So far, a 50-centimeter tsunami was observed at Miyazaki Port at 5:14 p.m. and 7:18 p.m., a 40-centimeter tsunami at Aburatsu in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture at 5:23 p.m., a 30-centimeter tsunami at Tosashimizu in Kochi Prefecture at 5:46 p.m., a 20-centimeter tsunami at Shibushi Port in Kagoshima Prefecture at 5:25 p.m., a 20-centimeter tsunami at Otodomari in Minami-Ohsumi Town, Kagoshima Prefecture at 5:48 p.m., a 20-centimeter tsunami at Kumano in Tanegashima, Kagoshima Prefecture at 6:23 p.m., a 20-centimeter tsunami at Hososhima in Hyuga City, Miyazaki Prefecture at 7:07 p.m., and a 10-centimeter tsunami at Cape Muroto in Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture at 5:42 p.m.

The tremors in each region were as follows: lower 6 in Nichinan City, upper 5 in Miyazaki City, Miyakonojo City, Kushima City, and Osaki Town, and lower 5 in Kobayashi City and other areas.
