Trailer: The Boy and the Dog

Jan 24 (News On Japan) - The film The Boy and the Dog, featuring the theme song 'Amber' by SEKAI NO OWARI, is set to hit theaters on March 20th. Adapted from a bestselling novel, the movie follows the journey of a dog who travels 3,000 kilometers over five years from Tohoku to Kyushu to reunite with its beloved owner.

The film stars Fumiya Takahashi and Nanase Nishino in dual leading roles, with the production team from From Siberia with Love bringing the heartwarming tale to life. Six months after the devastating earthquake, Kazumasa (played by Fumiya Takahashi), a young man who lost his job in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, encounters Tamon, a dog that also lost its owner in the disaster. Quickly bonding with Kazumasa and his family, Tamon becomes an indispensable presence in their lives. However, the dog remains fixated on the west, as though drawn to an unseen destination. Amid mounting pressure, Kazumasa becomes entangled in dangerous work to support his family, only to find himself involved in a criminal incident. In the chaos, Tamon vanishes. As time passes, Tamon is found in Shiga Prefecture with Miwa (played by Nanase Nishino), a woman hiding a secret crime. Tamon brings solace to Miwa, helping her regain a sense of normalcy, until Kazumasa, still searching for his lost companion, tracks them down. Initially wary of Kazumasa, Miwa gradually opens up, with Tamon serving as a bridge between them. But Miwa's past catches up with her, threatening their fragile peace. Determined to fulfill a promise to Miwa, Kazumasa embarks on a journey with Tamon to find the 'boy' the dog is destined to meet. Together, they face harrowing challenges and uncover miraculous truths along the way.
