Regular Flights Between Fukuoka and Taiwan's Kaohsiung Resume After 9 Years

FUKUOKA, Apr 17 (News On Japan) - A regular flight route between Fukuoka and Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan resumed on April 15th for the first time in nine years, operated by Taiwan's China Airlines.

A flight from Kaohsiung landed at Fukuoka Airport to mark the restart of the service. The newly resumed route will operate up to four times a week, with one round trip per operating day. Departures from Fukuoka are scheduled at 11:50 a.m., arriving in Kaohsiung at 1:40 p.m., while return flights leave Kaohsiung at 7:05 a.m. and arrive in Fukuoka at 10:50 a.m.

China Airlines had suspended the route in March 2016 due to restrictions on takeoff and landing slots at Fukuoka Airport. However, with the opening of a second runway at the airport last month, the airline has decided to resume the service.

A traveler noted, "Until now, I had to fly to Taipei and take the Shinkansen to Kaohsiung, which took over two hours. A direct flight is much more convenient."

Kaohsiung is Taiwan’s largest industrial city, and China Airlines expects increased demand from business travelers, particularly those affiliated with major Taiwanese firms such as semiconductor manufacturer TSMC.
