BEIJING, Apr 22 (News On Japan) - A Chinese man sentenced to death for the fatal stabbing of a Japanese schoolboy in Shenzhen has been executed, according to diplomatic sources.
The incident occurred in September 2024, when a Japanese boy attending a local Japanese school in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, was fatally stabbed by a man in his 40s.
In January 2025, a court in Guangdong handed down the death sentence to Zhong Changchun, who was 45 years old at the time of the verdict, for intentional homicide.
Japan’s embassy in Beijing confirmed on April 21st that China’s Foreign Ministry had notified them of the execution.
The court ruling described the act as "an extremely malicious and grave crime" in which the boy, who bore no blame, was killed in order to attract attention on the internet. It remains unclear whether the attacker specifically targeted the child because he was Japanese.
