Wakayama, Jul 19 (News On Japan) - In the town of Taiji in Wakayama Prefecture, known as the 'whale town,' two whales were relocated ahead of the official beach opening to prepare for a special summer event.
A male and a female melon-headed whale named Shiro and Cosmo, housed at the Taiji Whale Museum, were transferred on Friday to a nearby beach for the event titled "Beach Where You Can Meet Whales."
Carefully monitored by handlers, the nearly 3-meter-long whales were moved with close attention to their health and stress levels.
During the event, visitors will be able to observe the whales in a semi-natural environment and swim with them between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The event runs from July 18th through August 17th.
