TOKYO, Sep 03 (News On Japan) - The Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center, which served as a venue during the Tokyo Olympics and has been familiar to residents for 30 years, has been converted into an ice rink and will open on Saturday, September 6.
The new facility, named the Tokyo Tatsumi Ice Arena, was created by renovating the Olympic water polo venue at a cost of about 6.8 billion yen. The pool space has been repurposed to house both a main rink and a sub-rink.
The main rink meets international standards, making it suitable for hosting competitions, while the sub-rink features a permanent curling sheet.
This marks the first ice rink to be operated as a Tokyo metropolitan facility, and it will be available for use year-round.
Events will be held throughout the opening day on September 6, with general admission starting on September 7.
