Gassho-mura, known as the Hida Folk Village, is an open-air museum in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture that preserves the region’s distinctive gassho-zukuri farmhouses. The site brings together more than 30 traditional wooden structures with steep thatched roofs designed to withstand heavy snow, many of them relocated from nearby mountain villages. Visitors can explore workshops, seasonal exhibits, and craft demonstrations that showcase rural life in Japan’s Hida region, offering both a cultural and historical glimpse into a way of life that has largely disappeared.
