KYOTO, Sep 18 (News On Japan) - A mystical sea of clouds spread across Mt. Oe in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, on Tuesday morning, as radiative cooling created a striking dawn landscape.
At around 5:40 a.m. near the eighth station of the mountain, the phenomenon known as a sea of clouds appeared, formed when water vapor cools under radiative cooling and turns into mist, resembling layers of drifting clouds. As the sun rose, the scene was tinged with hues of red.
According to the city, temperatures had climbed close to midsummer levels on September 15th before dropping by more than 10 degrees with high humidity, creating the conditions for the spectacle the following morning.
The sea of clouds can be seen through early winter when similar conditions align.
