Massachusetts, Sep 19 (News On Japan) - A Japanese team has won the Ig Nobel Prize for the 19th consecutive year, with this year’s Biology Prize awarded to research demonstrating that painting stripes on cows helps repel insects.
The award went to a group led by researcher Tomoki Kojima from Ibaraki Prefecture. Their study showed that painting black cattle with zebra-like stripes reduced the number of blood-sucking insects such as stable flies.
At the award ceremony, Kojima appeared in a zebra-patterned shirt, drawing laughter and applause from the audience. The Ig Nobel Prizes are given to unique and unconventional research that first makes people laugh, then makes them think.
