AICHI, Sep 23 (News On Japan) - Aichi Prefectural Police have begun testing the use of small body-worn cameras to record enforcement activities.
The wearable cameras are intended to improve transparency by preventing disputes during questioning and documenting evidence of legal violations.
From September 22nd, two cameras each were distributed to the Chikusa, Nishi, and Ichinomiya police stations. In Ichinomiya City, officers equipped with the devices were immediately deployed to enforce traffic laws, including violations such as failing to stop at intersections and using mobile phones while driving.
“The system ensures proper enforcement and encourages drivers to operate their vehicles with greater caution,” said Yuji Hatano, Chief Inspector of the Ichinomiya Police Department’s traffic division.
The trial will continue until the end of March 2026, during which its effectiveness and potential challenges will be evaluated.
