TOKYO, Oct 16 (News On Japan) - The number of foreign visitors to Japan surpassed 30 million in the fastest time ever, according to data released by the Japan National Tourism Organization. A total of 31.65 million people visited the country between January and September 2025, breaking the 30 million mark earlier in the year than ever before.
The figure is on track to exceed last year’s record annual total of roughly 36.87 million, driven by a weaker yen and a sharp rise in tourists from China. Spending by inbound visitors on shopping and other activities also hit an all-time high during the January–September period, reaching 6.9156 trillion yen.
