FUKUOKA, Oct 27 (News On Japan) - Japan became the first champion in the newly established international team climbing competition held in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, after securing a decisive victory in the bouldering finals on October 25th.
The event, organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing, marked the final competition of the season and featured top athletes from six countries, including medalists from the Paris Olympics. The teams gathered in Iizuka to compete for national pride in the fast-growing Olympic discipline of sport climbing.
In the team bouldering finals, each country’s squad of four men and four women tackled five challenges, earning points based on their progress. Japan outperformed its rivals by more than 50 points to claim the gold medal and the title of the first-ever team bouldering champion.
The competition took place at Chikuhō Ryokuchi Park, where Fukuoka Prefecture is also planning to open a full-scale climbing facility. Officials expressed hopes that the venue will inspire local residents, especially young people, to engage with top-level athletes and the expanding sport.
