Tokyo Metro Completes Platform Screen Door Installation at All 180 Stations

TOKYO - Tokyo Metro has completed the installation of platform screen doors at all of its 180 stations, marking a major milestone in passenger safety measures across its network.

The operator began operating platform doors at Baraki-Nakayama Station on the Tozai Line on March 28th, bringing the rollout to completion across all lines. With this, every station on the Tokyo Metro network is now equipped with the safety feature designed to prevent passengers from falling onto the tracks.

Platform screen doors were first introduced in 1991 alongside the opening of the Namboku Line, making Tokyo Metro the first subway system in Japan to adopt the technology. Since then, the number of fall-related accidents has steadily declined as the installation rate has increased, according to the operator.
