Tokyo Station Gets Connected to 51-Story Yaesu Tower

TOKYO - To From Yaesu Tower, a large-scale mixed-use complex directly connected to Tokyo Station, is set to open on September 10, with developer Tokyo Tatemono unveiling part of the 51-story building to the media on September 7 ahead of its launch.

The tower rises about 250 meters above ground and has 51 floors above ground and four basement levels, housing offices, a theater, commercial facilities and other spaces.

The area shown to the media on September 7 included the commercial floors and a specialty-store zone designed to evoke the narrow backstreets of Yaesu.

A total of 55 stores, including long-established businesses and popular shops, are scheduled to open in the complex.

Also unveiled were works by eight groups of artists that will be permanently displayed in the building. The artworks were created based on an original story written by film director Shunji Iwai and set in the Yaesu district.

The development also aims to strengthen Yaesu's role as a gateway to international Tokyo by improving access to regional cities through facilities including a bus terminal, while establishing the tower as a new landmark.

Tokyo Tatemono President Katsuhito Ozawa said he hopes the development will attract large numbers of people and help transform Yaesu into a district that creates a sense of excitement.

"I hope many people will gather here and use the facilities, and that Yaesu will become the kind of place that makes everyone feel excited," Ozawa said.
