NAGOYA - Two 14-year-old junior high school students in Aichi Prefecture have been arrested on suspicion of obstructing traffic while performing dangerous bicycle stunts linked to group rides known on social media as Nagoya Ride.
The boys, who live in Seto and Owariasahi, are suspected of violating the Road Traffic Act during an incident in Nagakute in July.
Police said the two rode bicycles while performing wheelies, in which the front wheel is lifted off the ground, and obstructed the passage of vehicles.
Footage of the incident showed several boys riding with their front wheels raised. The boy at the rear crossed over the center line and collided with a bus.
Police said the boys are also suspected of leaving the scene after the collision.
Authorities have not disclosed whether the two have admitted or denied the allegations.
Dangerous group bicycle riding involving teenagers has been reported repeatedly in Nagoya and surrounding areas since around September last year.
The activity became known on social media as Nagoya Ride.
