TOKYO - Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi returned to Japan on the morning of September 24 following talks with US President Donald Trump and immediately headed to the Prime Minister's Office to finalize key appointments within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party ahead of an extraordinary Diet session in October.
Takaichi arrived at Haneda Airport at around 9 a.m. after completing her meeting with Trump in the United States. She entered the Prime Minister's Office approximately 30 minutes later, at around 9:30 a.m., to continue work on the remaining senior party appointments.
Before departing for the United States, Takaichi had said she wanted to complete the extensive personnel selection process by around midnight on the day of her return. She is proceeding with appointments to the remaining key party posts while taking into account the results of a questionnaire.
Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who attended the Japan-US summit, emphasized the significance of the talks, particularly their timing ahead of an upcoming meeting between the leaders of the United States and China. "It was highly significant to demonstrate the strength of the Japan-US alliance both at home and abroad immediately before the US-China summit," Motegi said.
Reflecting on the meeting, Motegi said he had gained a strong impression that the personal relationship between Takaichi and Trump had deepened further. "Sitting beside them, I strongly felt that the relationship of trust between Prime Minister Takaichi and President Trump had grown even stronger," he said.
