Man Arrested for Assaulting Seven Women in 15 Minutes in Tokyo

TOKYO - A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after allegedly attacking seven women in a series of unprovoked incidents near Jimbocho intersection in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward on October 17, with the assaults occurring at four locations over approximately 15 minutes.

The suspect, Hikaru Hamaguchi, was referred to prosecutors on November 6 following his arrest on suspicion of slapping a female university student as they passed each other on the street.

According to investigators, Hamaguchi is also suspected of assaulting six other women on the same evening, including punching victims in the abdomen and carrying out a flying kick from behind.

The attacks began at around 9 p.m. on October 17, when Hamaguchi allegedly punched the left arm of a teenage female university student as they passed each other.

Approximately two minutes later, he allegedly launched a flying kick from behind at one of four female high school students who were gathered together. All four students reportedly fell to the ground during the incident.

Six minutes later, Hamaguchi allegedly slapped a female university student in her 20s as they passed each other on the street.

In the final reported attack, he allegedly punched a teenage female university student in the abdomen.

Police believe Hamaguchi assaulted seven women in total during the approximately 15-minute period. All the victims were in their teens or 20s and are believed to have had no prior acquaintance with the suspect.

The Metropolitan Police Department has not disclosed whether Hamaguchi has admitted to the allegations.
