TOKYO, Jul 31 (News On Japan) - Toyota Motor Group has announced its sales figures for the first half of this year. While overseas sales reached a record high, domestic sales fell by more than 30% due to repeated certification fraud issues.
According to Toyota, the group's total sales from January to June this year were approximately 5.16 million units, down 4.7% from the previous year.
Of these, overseas sales increased by 3.1% to over 4.338 million units, marking a record high.
On the other hand, domestic sales amounted to 823,595 units, a decrease of 32%.
The decline in domestic sales is attributed to the discovery of certification fraud involving multiple group companies, leading to the suspension of shipments of certain models, as well as the temporary suspension of Prius production in April due to a recall.
