Wild Dolphins Attack Swimmers at Fukui Beach

Fukui, Aug 12 (News On Japan) - Two men were injured Monday after being bitten by wild dolphins at Suishohama Beach in Mihama, Fukui Prefecture.

At around 1:30 p.m., two men in their 20s were swimming at Suishohama Beach when they were approached and bitten by wild dolphins. One man from Aichi Prefecture sustained injuries to his right index finger, requiring seven stitches, while the other man from Gifu Prefecture was bitten on his right arm.

A beachgoer commented, "One of them was splashing a bit, and it seemed like the dolphin approached to play."

Since last year, dolphin-related injuries to humans have been on the rise in Fukui Prefecture. This season alone, 12 people have been injured at various beaches.

The Tsuruga Coast Guard has urged people to avoid approaching dolphins and to exit the water immediately if they are spotted.
