TOKYO, Aug 15 (News On Japan) - Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd., a major player in the retail industry, has announced its entry into the retail electricity business, supplying renewable energy from sources like solar power to its group stores.
On August 1, Seven & i established a subsidiary dedicated to handling the retail electricity business.
The company plans to procure electricity from renewable energy sources from power generation companies across the country and supply it to convenience stores, supermarkets, and other outlets starting in April next year.
Seven & i, which operates approximately 23,000 stores domestically, including Seven-Eleven and Ito-Yokado, has already installed solar panels in over 9,000 of these locations.
By establishing a system for procuring renewable energy, the company aims to increase the proportion of renewable energy used by its domestic stores to about 40% by the fiscal year 2030.
