Toshiba Develops Robot to Tackle Labor Shortages in Logistics

Oct 17 (News On Japan) - Toshiba, a major electronics company, has developed a robot equipped with the ability to instantly recognize the shape and size of objects used in logistics warehouses.

The robot, developed by Toshiba, is fitted with four suction pads, allowing it to instantly recognize and grasp items of various shapes and sizes during the packing process.

Previously, it was challenging for a single robot to handle objects of different materials and types or to grasp items placed at an angle.

With this technology, the step of programmers teaching robots how to grasp objects is no longer necessary, which is expected to reduce labor shortages in logistics operations.

Toshiba plans to conduct demonstration experiments in actual logistics warehouses and aims for practical implementation by fiscal year 2026.
