TOKYO, Apr 22 (News On Japan) - George Glass, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Japan, held his first meeting with Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya to discuss tariff measures under the Trump administration and efforts to strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance.
"This early approval and appointment of Ambassador Glass reflects how highly the United States values Japan, and I am very pleased," said Iwaya.
During the meeting, the two discussed cooperation on security issues in light of the Trump administration’s tariff policies, as well as ways to reinforce the bilateral alliance.
Iwaya also requested U.S. support for an early resolution of the abduction issue, to which Glass reportedly expressed full support.
Glass, known for his close ties to President Trump, said he is "very optimistic" that Japan and the United States will reach an agreement on tariff negotiations.
