Men's Sano International Tri-series 2025 (T20)|Japan vs Thailand FINAL

TOCHIGI, May 12 (News On Japan) - The Sano International T20I Tri-Series 2025 concluded on May 11 at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Japan, with Thailand emerging as the tournament champions.

The tri-nation series featured Japan, Thailand, and the Cook Islands competing in a round-robin format followed by a final.

Running from May 7th to May 11th, the tournament consisted of six matches, including key victories by Japan, such as a commanding 61-run win over Thailand on May 8th. In that match, Japan defended a total of 110 by dismissing Thailand for just 49 runs. However, rain impacted the schedule, forcing the abandonment of two matches on May 10th.

In the championship match, Japan batted first and posted 106 for 8 in their 20 overs. Thailand responded steadily, chasing down the target with just one ball to spare, finishing at 109 for 4 and sealing a six-wicket win. The result marked a significant achievement for Thailand, reflecting their continued rise in the T20I format.

Standout performances during the series included Thailand's Jandre Coetzee, who took 3 wickets for 6 runs against the Cook Islands on May 9th, and Japan’s Makoto Taniyama, who took 4 wickets for 18 runs against the Cook Islands in another crucial match.

With both Thailand and Japan finishing the group stage with two wins each, the final proved decisive in determining the series winner. The tournament further cemented Sano’s reputation as a growing hub for international cricket in East Asia.
