HOKKAIDO, Sep 24 (News On Japan) - The Sapporo Regional Meteorological Observatory announced that Mount Meakan in eastern Hokkaido, where eruption alert level 2 is in place, had experienced an eruption.
Since September 11th, volcanic earthquakes have been occurring frequently around Mount Meakan, with activity continuing near the Ponmachineshiri crater.
An aerial survey conducted on September 16th confirmed a thin layer of volcanic ash around the site, leading authorities to determine that a very small eruption had taken place.
