TOKYO, Oct 27 (News On Japan) - Emperor Naruhito met with former U.S. President Donald Trump for the first time in six years at the Imperial Palace on October 27th. The two exchanged greetings in English, with the Emperor saying, "I’m pleased to see you again," as he welcomed Trump to the Imperial residence around 6:30 p.m.
During the meeting, Trump said he had built a strong relationship of trust with former Prime Minister Abe, which helped maintain good Japan–US relations, and expressed his intention to further strengthen those ties under Japan’s new prime minister. The conversation also turned to baseball, with the Emperor noting that he was pleased to hear Trump’s praise for Shohei Ohtani. Trump replied, "Ohtani is truly amazing. But the Japanese pitcher in the recent Dodgers game was also good."
The meeting lasted about 30 minutes in a cordial atmosphere. As Trump departed, he repeatedly pointed toward the Emperor, calling him a "great man."
