TOKYO, Mar 05 (News On Japan) - Mitsui & Co. announced on March 6th that it has invested in a startup involved in nuclear fusion technology as the trading house seeks to take part in the commercialization and industrial development of fusion power generation.
The company revealed that it has invested in Miresso, a startup aiming to produce the rare metal beryllium, which is essential for nuclear fusion power generation.
Miresso is developing a method to produce beryllium at lower cost and with reduced energy consumption compared with conventional techniques. Using the newly secured funding, the company plans to build a demonstration plant.
Mitsui has previously invested in companies working to commercialize fusion power, including Kyoto Fusioneering, and said it hopes to play a role in the practical implementation and industrialization of nuclear fusion technologies.
