Seven-Eleven Installs Self-Service Shipping Machines

TOKYO - Seven-Eleven Japan and Yamato Transport announced on August 26 that they will introduce self-service shipping machines allowing customers to send parcels without lining up at a staffed checkout counter.

Customers can complete the shipping process by scanning a barcode, attaching the printed label to their parcel and placing the package into a collection box.

The service will cover Yamato Transport parcels that fit inside the collection box, including packages sent through flea market apps and similar online services.

Until now, customers using Seven-Eleven to ship such parcels have had to wait at the checkout counter and complete the procedure with store staff.

The companies expect the new machines to shorten waiting times at registers while reducing the workload for convenience store employees.

Kohei Takegahara of Seven-Eleven Japan's marketing division described the system as a significant improvement in convenience for customers. "I think it is a truly innovative and extremely convenient self-service shipping machine," he said. "We would also be very pleased if it encourages people who have not previously visited Seven-Eleven to come to our stores."
